Laced with Grace to sing Sunday at Salamonie COB

Salamonie Church of the Brethren will host an outdoor concert featuring Laced with Grace, from Markle, on Sunday, Aug. 21.

The concert will begin at approximately 12:45 p.m. and last until 2 p.m. Other activities, including an inflatable jumping castle for the youngsters, will also take place during the concert.

The community is invited to bring a lawn chair and stay for the festivities.

A free-will donation will be taken to promote the ministry of Laced with Grace.

The church is located on Ind.-124 between Ind.-9 and Ind.-5.

Roanoke church breaks ground for new sanctuary

Faith Lutheran Church in Roanoke held a groundbreaking service on Sunday, Aug. 7.

Faith Lutheran began as a mission plant of the Decatur Circuit, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in February of 1996. The congregation built and moved into its current church building in October 1999.

The new sanctuary will be handicap accessible, as the current building is.

The church has a traditional TLH (The Lutheran Hymnal) worship service on Sunday at 9 a.m. followed by Sunday School and adult Bible study.

Mt. Etna UM to serve root beer, brats Aug. 27

Mt. Etna United Methodist Church will host a "beer and brats" fundraiser for the Henderson Settlement missions trip on Aug. 27 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The menu includes root beer and brats along with sides and dessert. Brats are provided by Prairie Pure Pork.

A corn hole tournament will be held at 4:30 p.m. and there is a cost per team. Half of the proceeds will go to the winning team, the other half to the missions.

There will also be a silent auction, which will end at 7 p.m. Auction items were donated by the church and community.

Roanoke market will feature peaches and apples from County Line Orchard

David Doud of County Line Orchard will be at the Roanoke Farmers' Market with peaches and apples for sale this Saturday, Aug. 20. The peaches were starting last week and Doud expects them to be more plentiful this week.

Also, Terri Christman will be at this week's market with a new crop of heirloom tomatoes.

Indiana sweet corn and other produce will also be available.

The sweet corn has been selling out early on Saturdays and shoppers are advised to arrive early for the best selection.

Children participating in this summer's day camp at the Parkview Huntington Family YMCA visited residents at The Heritage of Huntington once a week throughout the summer for games and conversation. For their last visit before returning to school on Aug. 15, the children handed out handmade cards and necklaces. They were treated to cookies and milk, and Heritage resident Bus Cryderman displayed his collection of carved items.

Warren Pharmacy will offer flu shots

The Huntington County Health Department will hold a Flu Shot Clinic at the Warren Pharmacy on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be a fee for flu shots, cash only. Children 18 years and younger who are Medicaid patients may pay a reduced fee if they present a currently active Medicaid card. The Health Department cannot file for adult Medicaid or Medicare patients.

Residents of neighboring counties are welcome.

The pharmacy is located at 222 N. Wayne St., Warren IN. The phone number for the pharmacy is 375-2135.

Seniors will be treated to ‘Just Go With It’ Aug. 26

The next Senior Friday movie is "Just Go With It," to be presented at the Huntington 7 Theater on Aug. 26.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and coffee and doughnuts will be available as well as door prizes.

Senior Friday partners are the Huntington Senior Center, Norwood Health & Rehabilitation Center and Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Huntington County welcomes Two EE's Winery

Huntington County welcomed a new business, Two EE's Winery, on Thursday, Aug. 10. The winery will be located near the intersection of U.S.-24 and CR 675N in Roanoke. On hand for the groundbreaking were (from left) Larry Satek, president of the Indiana Wine Grape Council; Huntington County Commissioner Tom Wall; co-founders Eric Harris and Emily Hart; Perry Collins, vice president of the Huntington County United Economic Development Board of Directors; co-founders Dave and Shirley Harris; and Brian Blackford, communications director for the Indiana Office of Tourism Development.

Board will review 2011 4-H fair

The Huntington County 4-H Fair Association will meet Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. in Heritage Hall, Hier's Park to review the 2011 Huntington County 4-H Fair.

The board will hear reports from the 4-H superintendents and fair board committee chairpersons, as well as comments from others attending the evaluation meeting.

Dates for the 2012 Huntington County 4-H Fair will be determined during the board's annual meeting on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

 

Locals earn championship ribbons at state fair goat and rabbit shows

Two Huntington County 4-H members earned championship ribbons in the Indiana State Fair goat show, and several others earned top awards in the state fair's rabbit show.

Jordyn Poulson was champion in the intermediate showmanship competition for Boer Goats. Nola Cummins was senior showmanship champion in Boer Goats.

Poulson also earned fifth place in the Boer Goat category for fullblood does ages 16-20 months and 13th place for percentage does 6-9 months. Cummins was awarded ninth place for fullblood does 3-6 months.
