INDOT announces Ind.-3 closing Oct. 11 Monday, October 10, 2011 7:56 AM The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces that Ind.-3, between Ind.-128 and E. Shafer Rd., near Warren, is scheduled for closure on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 8 a.m. A crew from Wabash Central Railroad Company will be rebuilding the crossing. The official detour route is Ind.-124 to Ind.-5 to Ind.-218 to Ind.-3, which adds approximately 12 miles for through traffic. Former students of Aboite Township one-room schools meet for reunion Monday, October 10, 2011 7:51 AM The Annual Aboite Township one-room school reunion was held Saturday, Oct. 1, at the township fire station reception hall on Aboite Center Road. Seven of eight schools were represented at the reunion.Activities with an open house were held at the restored Aboite Center School No. Five. "School Marm" Linda Huge was present to answer questions.A scale model of the Wabash and Erie Canal aqueduct, which carried water over the Aboite creek, was on display at the school. Hers is one of several pieces of art placed around campus as part of a Fundamentals of Design class. Walgreens sets events Monday, October 10, 2011 7:44 AM October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Walgreens will be holding a bake sale on Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store will be selling caramel corn and popcorn all month long. A Halloween photo shoot will be held on Oct. 30, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The pumpkin decorating contest will also be held on Oct. 30, and the deadline for turning in pumpkins for judging to Johnnie Hiles is Oct. 22. Herzog's portraits are on display at the Huntington City-Township Public Library. HU Auxiliary seeks donations of items for benefit garage sale Oct. 21-22 Monday, October 10, 2011 7:38 AM The Huntington University Women's Auxiliary will hold its 21st annual garage sale benefit, to be held Friday, Oct. 21 3-8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 22 8 a.m. till noon. The sale will be held in the HU field house, located at the Guilford Street campus entrance. The proceeds from the sale will fund the 2011-12 Women's Auxiliary project - raising $2,000 for re-upholstery of furniture in Roush and Wright Hall lounges. BP checks move to hospital chapel Monday, October 10, 2011 7:36 AM Parkview Home Health & Hospice of Huntington is moving its walk-in Blood Pressure Clinic from its office located at 2806 Theater Ave. to Parkview Huntington Hospital, 2001 Stults Rd., Huntington. The clinic will operate out of the hospital's chapel, providing free blood pressure checks for the public. The program will run from Oct. 10 through Dec. 9.It will be held in Warren on Mondays and Wednesdays at Salamonie School until 5:30 p.m. Practice buses will be available. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the program will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County until 6 p.m.HAT transportation will be available to Andrews and Roanoke students. With him is Elle Veldman, of Fort Wayne, who won the homecoming queen's crown. Baker is a senior at Bishop Luers and is this year's co-captain of the Luers football team.
