Children’s Choir to host dinner and raffle Oct. 30

The Children's Choir of Huntington County will host its Autumn Dinner and Raffle on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m., at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Sponsored by Bendix Corporation, the evening will feature an auction with a wide variety of prizes.

"We were so excited that Bendix Corporation would sponsor our children this way," says Cathie Cady, fund-raising committee member. "And then we started hearing from professional sports organizations."

Great Pumpkin Festival set for downtown Huntington

The Great Pumpkin Festival, sponsored by the Downtown Business Group, will return to downtown Huntington on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29.

The Pumpkin Decorating Contest will kick off the event on Friday, Oct. 28, in its new location at the former Rodger's and Vivian's Income Tax Service, 323 N. Jefferson St. Cash prizes will be offered to the winning pumpkins in three categories - best dressed, best carved and best painted pumpkins.

Prize sponsors are First Federal Savings Bank, Justin Wall, of Wall Legal Services, and William Hogg, Attorney At Law.

Huntington University music students to perform in Oct. 26 recital

The Huntington University Department of Music presents the first Area Music Student Recital of the year on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 4 p.m.

The recital will take place in the Longaker Recital Hall inside the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

The recital will feature a variety of music majors and minors in vocal and instrumental solo or chamber music.

It is free and open to the public.

The Huntington County Hometown Improvement Committee had its initial meeting Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Pathfinder Services. The group is seeking to engage county residents to provide thoughts, ideas and solutions for the community to be sustainable and thriving by building on its many assets. Special rabbit hunt set for youth at Salamonie

Department of Natural Resources staff from Salamonie Lake and the Indiana Beaglers Alliance invite youth between ages 11 and 17 to participate in a special rabbit hunt on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Salamonie Lake.

The event begins at 7 a.m. at the visitors' center and ends at noon.

Each youth hunter will be supervised and assisted by an adult mentor during the hunt. Adults wishing to volunteer as dog handlers or mentors also must register in advance by calling 574-551-4067.

Warren Scarecrow Festival is Friday, Oct. 28

The streets of Warren will be lined with scarecrows as costumed characters parade through the downtown during the Warren Scarecrow Festival on Friday, Oct. 28.

The festival is sponsored by the Warren Chamber of Commerce.

Area residents, businesses and organizations were invited to create scarecrows, which will be judged on Thursday, Oct. 27. The scarecrows will remain on display in front of their creators' homes or businesses and along Wayne Street in downtown Warren during Friday evening's festivities.

Harlem Ambassadors visit Huntington North High School

Food, craft items offered at Warren UCC bazaar

Warren United Church of Christ is hosting a holiday bazaar on Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This year's theme is "Remembering When."

Items available for purchase include homemade noodles, apple dumplings, pies and salsa and handmade items in the Christmas Craft Room.

Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The church is located at the intersection of Second and Wayne streets, in Warren.

 

Euchre party at K of C to benefit HCS athletes

A euchre party on Nov. 5 will help raise funds to support student athletes at Huntington Catholic School.

The party will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 23 1/2 E. Market St. in Huntington. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and card games begin at 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a snack to share. A cash bar will be available.
