First Federal opens second Fort Wayne branch

First Federal Savings Bank hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at their newest location at 10316 Maysville Rd., Fort Wayne on Tuesday, June 26, at 1 p.m.

The location officially opened on Monday, June 18, with Justin Carrell as the branch manager.

The new facility offers traditional banking services including a full service lobby, drive-up and ATM access as well as brokerage and financial planning services through First Federal's wealth management division, Innovative Financial Services.

Central Christian blends worship styles

Central Christian Church, 500 MacGahan St., is offering a blended style of worship each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. under the leadership of Rev. Chris Hayden, pastor, and worship leader Ann Bostel.

Blended worship integrates a wide variety of old and new worship styles for a service in which the word of God is both spoken and sung.

Instruments such as guitars and drums play along with the piano and organ, and hymns and praise songs are mixed together to give unity to the worship service.

The S.P.A.R.K. program is a summer playground program and takes place at five area parks over six weeks during the summer. It is run by the Huntington Parks and Recreation Department.

Roanoke gallery sets new exhibit

Mixed media works on paper by Justin Johnson and ceramics by James Freeman will be on display at Crestwoods Gallery in Roanoke from July 3 to Aug. 21.

Both artists will be in attendance at the opening reception held on Tuesday, July 3, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the gallery.

Johnson is the gallery director at the University of Saint Francis and Freeman is a nationally recognized artist with a studio in Michigan.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery is located at 314 N. Main St., Roanoke.

Storms on Friday, June 29, ripped out this large tree by its roots on the property owned by Charles and Deborah Daugherty at 1544 Poplar St., Huntington, but fortunately it missed falling on the house.

Fireworks canceled in Huntington, Roanoke and Warren

Fireworks displays in Huntington, Roanoke and Warren have fallen victim to the weather.

But while it's usually an unexpected downpour that fouls up the fireworks, this year it's the lack of rain.

"We're postponing the city fireworks because of the severe weather conditions and the threat that exists to the lives and property of the people of Huntington," Huntington Fire Marshal Leon Hurlburt said in announcing the decision that was made on Friday, June 29.

Senior lunch to feature tales of Australian life

People age 50 or older are invited to the Salamonie Interpretive Center on July 2 to listen to interpretive naturalist Kristie Ridgeway share details of her school semester in Australia.

Highlights for Ridgeway included holding a koala bear and seeing flying foxes, which are actually large bats. She will also share other impressions of her trip, including her experience with vegemite and volunteer work.

Lutheran breaks ground on Roanoke office

Officials break ground for a new Lutheran Medical Group facility at 280 Commercial St. in downtown Roanoke on Monday, June 25.

Leaders from Lutheran Health Network, Lutheran Medical Group, the town of Roanoke and Huntington County broke ground on a new $1.2 million, 7,234-square-foot family medicine physician office on Monday, June 25.

The building, which will be located at 280 Commercial St. in downtown Roanoke, will replace a much smaller structure about a half-mile away.

The new Lutheran Medical Group facility will be more than 80 percent larger than the existing practice and offer modern accommodations. Construction is expected to be completed by early November.
